1953 Wasserläufer

Der Wasserläufer This is the first human powered hydrofoil ever. It was invented and designed by the bavarian engineer Julius Schuck. In 1953 it was presented the first time in the german Tagesschau (News) and the inventor himself rode his hydrofoil on the river Isar in Munich. In the 1978 movie Gizmo by Howard Stern the Wasserläufer has a small part. This movie was reporting about crazy inventions of past days.
The Wasserläufer used Flapping Wing Propulsion far before anybody else even thought about this way of propulsion. Below is the link to the News Video of the Wasserläufer.

1984 Flying Fish Alan Abott and Alec Brooks

The Flying Fish was designed by Allan Abott und Alec Brooks to break the current record times for human powered boats. Since a very long time these records were hold by rowing boats.

1985 Hydroped

Designed by Sid Shutt

1986 Foiled Again

Designed by David Owers

1986 Spirit of Minnesota

Designed by Mike Mixel

1986 Mutiny on the Boundry Layer

The Mutiny on the Boundry Layer was Parker McCready`s first try to build a hydrofoil with Flapping Wing Propulsion. The hydrofoil was based on the Flying Fish and tried to convert the power from the bicycle to a flapping wing.

1988 Imperial Racer

Designed by John Enrietto

1988 Decavitator

Designed by Mark Drela and students from MIT. The Decaviator is the current World-Record Holder on 100m with flying start following the IHPV rules.

1998 Trampofoil

Der Wasserläufer The Trampofoil was invented by Alexander Sahlin, a swedish engineer. It has a weight of only 12 kgs and just like Wasserläufer and Pogofoil it uses Flapping Wing Propulsion. Cause of the low weight it was the first really easy to drive human powered hydrofoil. But it had no floating devices, what makes it impossible to start from the water.

199? Wetwing

Der Wasserläufer The Wetwing was designed by Jochen Ewert a bavarian engineer.
With different wings it is very fast on short and long distances and even in the slalom. Proofed on this years championships.
Wetwing won the slalom, was fast on 100m and on the long distance it drove incredible 7 km only on the wing.
